STOP PRESS - VACANCY FOR PLAYSCHEME CO-ORDINATOR FOR 2009 (AND HOPEFULLY BEYOND)
HSGA SUMMER PLAYSCHEME NEWS - Letter from our Treasurer David Woodhead, September 2008
The HSGA Summer Playscheme has been a successful event now for over 10 years, and is the highlight of the summer holidays for many of our children. Starting with 15 children for one week, it has developed over the years into a large event, and many families are able to access this over a 3 week period.
Sophia Saleem has been the central figure in the management of the Playscheme, but the time has come for Sophia to take a rest from this. We are indebted to Sophia for the fantastic work she has done over the years, and also the support of her team.
It is now time for us to take stock and evaluate how we proceed with the Playscheme, and it is clear that if we are to continue to provide the service to the autistic children of Kirklees, we will need to work together to raise funds to be able to pay for this provision.
Each year we need around £20,000 to provide a high quality Playscheme which we have been used to. We should be able to get financial support from Kirklees, but the amount at this stage is not certain. There are grants available from organizations such as the National Lottery and BBC Children in Need.
However, we will need to generate income ourselves to do this. Sponsored events, car boot sales, jumble sales, concerts, fashion shows etc … are the type of things we have done in the past to successfully raise money for events.
The committee of HSGA cannot do this alone – there are only 5 of us. We need the support of the whole group and especially the families who benefit from having a summer Playscheme. We would like to form a sub-committee, with the specific purpose of generating money for the Summer Playscheme. If you would like to join such a sub-committee, please contact one of the committee members.
